The city is considered to be One of the most important centers of trade and industry in North Africa, and one of the most important political, economic, cultural and educational centers in Morocco. The history of Tangier is very rich as it is the meeting point of many Mediterranean civilizations. The city was established to be an Amazigh capital and a port of Carthage during the fifth century BC. Several successive civilizations affected this city, from the Greeks to the Islamic civilization.
